INTRODUCTORY COURSE IN NARRATIVE THERAPY

The introductory course in Narrative therapy can be applied to help people with a wide range of problems including (but not limited to) depression, anxiety, panic disorder, issues of violence and abuse, and relationship issues.

Courses begin on the first Thursday evening of March and September each year. The course runs for 12 weeks, from 6:30 to 9:30pm.

THE NARRATIVE/APPROACH THERAPY

The Narrative approach of Michael White and David Epston is based on narrative and post-structural theory and is innovative and non-blaming. It can be applied to help people with a wide range of problems.  The course will provide an introduction to concepts such as unique outcomes, externalising conversations, therapeutic letters, dominant and alternative stories, reflecting teams, definitional ceremonies and re-membering.

THIS COURSE IS DESIGNED TO HELP YOU

  1. Introduce the idea of “externalising conversations”, how to start using them during sessions, and gain experience in using them.
  2. Learn about therapeutic letter writing and other means of “thickening” alternate stories and obtain some experience in using these ideas.
  3. Learn about “narrative mapping”, "alternate stories” and get some experience of asking questions and engaging in conversations to help form alternate stories.

The NTC has established a reputation in Melbourne as a friendly non-institutional educational environment where classes are conducted in a lively interactive style with debate, discussion and interviews. Students are encouraged as individuals to develop their own unique Narrative practise.
